1765-folding-shovel
Folding Shovel

Folding Shovel

Epic Armoury's Folding Shovel is a 23.6 in foam spade built to imitate the entrenching tools carried by soldiers and survivalists. Real entrenching shovels of this type saw use from WWII onward as standard-issue kit, and were even pressed into service as improvised close-quarters weapons — sharpened blades saw action at the Battle of Stalingrad.

The build starts with EVA foam wrapped around an 0.31 in solid fiberglass rod, finished in a durable latex layer that resists shredding and mimics a smooth metal surface. Its 15.4 in handle is hand-carved and painted to resemble real wood grain, while the 12.2 in head is finished in army green with deliberately worn edges.

The head doesn't actually fold, though fine sculpted details suggest that it could — and it's reinforced against breakage despite heavy use. Swing this improvised axe against raiders, zombies, or radioactive rodents while keeping a practical edge to your post-apocalyptic kit.

History

Entrenching tools were used in ancient times by Roman legionnaires to dig ditches around their camps

The entrenching tool was designed to fold easily for transport, and serve as both a shovel and a pick

Entrenching tools were also considered a weapon and were often sharpened by soldiers in WWI and WWII

Disclaimer: Our LARP products are for recreational use only.
