Splint Shoulders
Each spaulder in this set from Epic Armoury uses a single, contoured metal plate that turns and absorbs strikes aimed at the arm. Leather straps wrap the bicep to hold them in place, with a cord at the shoulder connecting to a breastplate or gambeson, and a scalloped metal and black leather breaker trims the top edge for a distinctive look.
They pair especially well with Epic Armoury's Splint Bracers and Poleyns. Built from 0.04 in mild steel with leather straps and fittings, they're rated for LARP or reenactment abuse given regular leather and metal upkeep.

- Plate armor spread as firearms grew more common through the 13th century
- Usually worn over a gambeson for both comfort and added safety
- A vertical plate atop the pauldron, called a sword breaker, was meant to catch and deflect blows before they reached the head
