Black Knight Shield
Epic Armoury's Black Knight Shield is a semi-curved shield inspired by the transitional heater shields of 12th-century Western Europe, suited to knights or soldiers fighting for darkness and the triumph of evil. Hand-painted in a glossy black finish with a tarnished metal rim, it's a fitting choice for the angsty heart of a fallen paladin.
Simple, timeless, and classic, this Black Knight Shield fits almost any LARP character you might play. Six canvas shield straps, or enarmes, on the back let you wear it left- or right-handed, secured through canvas attached to hard EVA foam for a reliable, comfortable grip. Its slight convex shape helps in combat, and at 35.4 in long it offers solid protection without becoming unwieldy. A bit of regular latex maintenance will keep it looking sharp.
A More Versatile Shield
This shape sits between a kite shield and something new: a flattened top and shorter length made it workable on horseback or on foot alike. Historians would call it a heater shield — a Western European design meant to replace the kite shield with something more versatile that anyone could use. Traditional builds used thin, non-splintering wood covered in leather, though metal or braced versions existed too.
