Tanto - 15.7 in
Among the smaller blades in Epic Armoury's Asian Universe line, the Tanto takes its shape from a historical Japanese weapon and completes a samurai sword set nicely. A straight, single-edged 10.2 in blade meets a small oval crossguard that shields the 3.9 in leather-wrapped grip. As with the rest of the line, a fiberglass core sits inside closed-cell foam under a latex shell, keeping the weapon safe and visually convincing.
History
- Feudal Japan's samurai carried this blade as standard equipment
- Its short size let it clear the sheath fast when combat called for a quick response
- Wearing it alongside a katana or wakizashi signaled a samurai's rank and honor
