Braced Shield
Epic Armoury modeled this 23.6 in round latex shield on the wooden shields carried by early Vikings and Saxons in the Middle Ages. Hand-painted wood and iron finishes bring out plenty of detail across its wood-textured face, sculpted iron rim, and center plate, making for a simple yet convincing look.
Two cotton arm straps on the back, mounted through hard EVA foam, let you wear it comfortably in either hand with a grip built to last. With regular latex maintenance, it'll take repeated LARP combat in stride.
History
- Round wooden shields dominated the early European Middle Ages, typically cut from light, non-splintering woods such as linden, fir, alder, or poplar
- An iron rim was sometimes added to reinforce the edge
