Rogue Neck and Shoulders
Six articulated pieces make up this set, a two-part gorget, two pauldrons, and two upper-arm guards, covering the neck, chest, shoulders, and upper arms. The gorget runs from the throat down to the sternum in combined metal and leather, held to the shoulder pieces with top-grain leather straps and heavy cord, and cinched further with a leather strap around the chest.
Each shoulder unit pairs a pauldron with an arm guard over the shoulder joint and upper arm; the pauldron's upward-scooped top forms a ridge meant to turn aside blows, and it connects down to the upper-arm plate, which straps around the bicep for adjustment.
Galvanized mild steel and leather make up the build, with rolled, ridged edges throughout. Modeled after assassins and rogues, it nonetheless mixes freely with other Epic Armoury armor pieces for a custom character look.
History
- "Gorget" itself derives from a word meaning throat
- Sculpted, overlapping plates historically added protection and deflected attacks on the battlefield
- Plate armor saw wider use as firearms became more common in the 13th century
