Shoulder Plates Dark Drake
Epic Armoury's Dark Drake Shoulderplates are a set of two shoulder guards combining spaulders, pauldrons, and besagues. The spaulder uses four scale-like ridged metal plates, or lames, overlaying one another for laminate upper-arm protection. A large pauldron overlays the spaulder for additional shoulder joint and armpit protection, while besagues (small round convex metal shields) tied on with leather cords add further armpit coverage. Leather straps around the biceps and at the shoulder blade fasten the shoulderplates to a breast- and backplate. Epic Armoury breast- and backplates are sold separately and come with fittings for mounting the shoulders.
The Dark Drake Shoulder Plates are designed to match Epic Armoury's Dark Drake Armour but work just as well with other Epic Armoury metal products, giving you the freedom to customize your character's costume. Made of 0.04 in thick galvanized mild steel with leather straps and fittings, this piece is built to withstand LARP or reenactment abuse with regular leather and metal armor care.
- Epic Dark finish (perfect for a mysterious character), sized M/L/XL
History
Plate armor of this style gained ground as firearms became more prevalent through the 13th century, historically featuring sculpted ridges and overlapping plates that reinforced protection and deflected blows on a chaotic battlefield. This particular form emerged as an evolution of the spaulder during the 15th century.
