Shoulder Plate Mercenary
This pair of spaulders from Epic Armoury layers three ridged metal lames over one another for laminated protection across the upper arms. Leather straps secure each piece around the bicep and at the shoulder blade, where it attaches to a breastplate -- Epic Armoury sells breast- and backplates separately, each fitted for mounting these shoulders.
Built to match Epic Armoury's Mercenary Armour, the plates still work fine with other Epic Armoury metal pieces if you want to mix and match your build. Construction runs to 0.04 in mild steel with leather straps and fittings, tough enough for LARP or reenactment use as long as you keep up regular leather and metal maintenance.
- Available in Polished Steel and Epic Dark & Epic Black colors
History
- Plate armor spread as firearms grew more common through the 13th century
- Sculpted ridges and overlapping plates historically reinforced protection and deflected blows in the chaos of battle
