Barbuta Helmet

Epic Armoury's Barbuta takes its cues from Italian soldiers of the 15th century, an elegant yet functional helmet built to protect the head in combat. It covers the head, neck, and most of the face while still allowing clear vision through its reinforced, Y-shaped visor, rolled and riveted for extra strength. A curved crest runs from forehead to neck, adding a sleek, commanding detail to the battlefield look.

Built to pair with Renaissance-style clothing, the Barbuta carries a high-fantasy feel as well, and it's become a popular choice in modern culture for high-elf characters.

Tighten the leather strap beneath the chin to secure the Barbuta in place. Built from 0.04 in thick mild steel with full-grain leather straps and fittings, this armor piece is designed to hold up to LARP or reenactment use with regular leather and metal care.

  • Available in Epic Dark and Polished Steel colors, sizes M and L
  • Includes a leather fitting and band for internal adjustment

History

Italians first wore this style in the 15th century, drawing on classical Greek helmet design. It was often paired with a stiffened mail collar for throat and neck protection, and sometimes decorated with rich fabrics such as heavy velvet.
