Short Sleeves For Gambeson Warrior

These padded short sleeves are designed to connect to Epic Armoury's Warrior Gambeson Torso (sold separately), attaching via the supplied cotton cords and long-wearing brass eyelets.

The build is substantial enough to function as armor in its own right: heavy layers of 100% fluffed polyester are sandwiched between layers of 100% heavy cotton twill, then stitched in vertical lines that lock the padding in place and echo a classic European high-medieval construction. Gambeson-style quilted armor of this kind has actually seen use across the globe since antediluvian times, which makes it a versatile basic armor regardless of setting or period.

Material breakdown: 100% cotton twill outer shell, 100% polyester padding, and a 100% cotton lining.

  • Available in Epic Black, Natural, Desert Beige and Ox Brown colors, sizes S/M, L/XL and 2XL/3XL/4XL

History

Quilted armor dates back at least to 400 BCE, worn as padding beneath chainmail or plate. A well-made high-medieval European gambeson was documented as able to stop a sword blow from breaking the skin, and layered under chainmail, it could even absorb heavy arrow strikes and blows from a mace or axe. Freemen, mercenaries, and other independent fighters favored this particular style.
