Knightly Gambeson
Long sleeves and coverage from neck to hips make Epic Armoury's Knightly Gambeson a padded jacket built to work either on its own or as the foundation layer beneath heavier armor. The quilting runs vertically in some areas and horizontally in others, chosen to give the wearer as much freedom of movement as possible in each zone.
Quilted garments like this have functioned as stand-alone armor since at least 400 BC, and on its own the gambeson holds up reasonably well. Layer it beneath plate or mail, though, and the combination becomes genuinely excellent protection against most weapons of the era.
