Wooden Buckler - 15.7 in
Swordsmen throughout history relied on small round shields like Epic Armoury's Wooden Buckler for close, fast defense. This 15.7 in piece is sculpted and painted to resemble wood, centered on a round shield boss, and its neutral look suits nearly any character build. A punch grip wrapped in leather sits hidden behind that boss, usable in either hand, and the 5.5 in handle is anchored through hard EVA foam for a dependable hold. Regular latex upkeep will keep this shield standing up to repeated LARP combat.
History
- Traces back to the Bucellarii, private forces maintained by wealthy landowners in the late Roman Empire
- Saw particular favor among nimble fighters during the Renaissance and Baroque periods
- Relied on the shield boss, the round, convex center piece, to turn aside incoming blows
