Star Buckler - 15.7 in
Measuring 15.7 in across, the Star Buckler is one of Epic Armoury's small round shields, a design drawn from the kind of buckler skilled swordsmen have carried throughout history. Its neutral look suits a wide range of characters: sculpted and painted to resemble iron, the face is reinforced with a brass rim and a studded star pattern, with a round shield boss set at the center to help deflect incoming strikes.
A punch grip tucked behind the boss lets you carry the Star Buckler in either hand, and the 5.5 in handle is anchored through hard EVA foam for a dependable, long-lasting hold. Built from latex, it's made to take the punishment of ongoing LARP combat provided you keep up with routine latex maintenance.
History
- Originally developed for Bucellarii, personal armies of rich landowners in the late Roman Empire
- Particularly popular with light-footed fighters during the Renaissance and Baroque eras
- Used the Shield Boss, the round, convex piece of material at the center of the shield, to deflect blows
