Krom Shield
Epic Armoury modeled this 37.4 in round latex shield on the shields carried by Vikings and Saxons before the 10th century, giving it a wood-textured face finished in wood-and-iron paint. Laser-cut detailing lays a convincing iron brace across that wooden surface, and a slightly convex profile combined with a front iron boss gives you a combat advantage -- pair it with a Viking Axe for the full look.
A punch-grip on the back keeps handling comfortable and secure, and the hard EVA foam and latex build holds up to sustained LARP combat as long as you keep the latex maintained.
History
- Some shields added an iron rim for extra reinforcement
- The boss -- the round, convex fitting at the shield's center -- helped deflect incoming blows
- Round wooden shields dominated the early European Middle Ages, typically built from light, non-splintering woods like linden, fir, alder, or poplar
