Ryūgan, the Katana
Ryūgan, the Katana from Epic Armoury, is a weapon with real presence, built for players who want both elegance and efficiency from their LARP gear. Its name means "dragon's eye," and the whole sword is designed around movement, control, and understated style. The silhouette borrows from traditional katana forms but has been reworked for fantasy settings and fast-paced action.
As the newest entry in the Stronghold Masters range, Ryūgan has been streamlined and rebalanced to be noticeably easier to handle than earlier versions. It's built from latex-free injection-molded EVA foam around a strengthened fiberglass core, with a Kevlar-reinforced tip for added protection, so it can take heavy use. A slightly thinner profile suits high-intensity fighting while keeping the softness and resilience Stronghold is known for. Whether you're at a con, in front of a camera, or just want a sword that moves the way you do, Ryūgan delivers.
The handle wraps in a textured, canvas cross-laced pattern true to katana style, giving it a secure, grounded grip that feels good bare-handed or during long sessions. Balance sits naturally between hilt and blade, so Ryūgan moves fluidly without feeling too light to land a satisfying strike.
Ryūgan comes in eight colors so you can match it to your gear or character:
- Shadow Black - subtle, sleek, and quietly commanding
- Gold - a royal, timeless finish with real presence
- Sapphire Blue - focused and cool, with ocean-deep tones
- Amethyst Purple - a mysterious, arcane shade with real richness
- Ruby Red - fierce and fiery, impossible to overlook
- Noble Steel (silver) - confident, classic, and clean
- Emerald Green - bold and earthy, suited to wild, natural looks
- Citrine Yellow - sharp and warm, like light catching on steel
A stylized tsuba (handguard) with an angular, curved shape adds a fantasy touch, shown in the product photos. It can be removed or swapped for other Stronghold-compatible guards, giving you room to customize or switch styles between characters. Though built with LARP in mind, Ryūgan's color range and slender shape also make it a strong choice for cosplayers, stage performers, and costumiers who need a durable prop that photographs well and performs in combat — bridging the gap from suave samurai to anime-fantasy hero.
More than good looks, Ryūgan is about how it feels in hand: light, strong, and full of presence.
