Steel Buckler - 15.7 in
The Steel Buckler is another of Epic Armoury's small, versatile round shields, inspired by the bucklers carried by skilled swordsmen through history. At 15.7 in across, its neutral design suits many character types: sculpted and painted to look like iron, the face is reinforced with a round central shield boss and a cross of studded iron running across it.
A punch grip tucked behind the boss lets you wield the Steel Buckler left- or right-handed, and the 5.5 in handle is secured through hard EVA foam for a solid, lasting grip. As a latex shield, it's built to withstand repeated LARP combat as long as you keep up with regular latex maintenance.
History
- Originally developed for Bucellarii, personal armies of rich landowners in the late Roman Empire
- Particularly popular with light-footed fighters during the Renaissance and Baroque eras
- Used the Shield Boss, the round, convex piece of material at the center of the shield, to deflect blows
