Merc Armour Set - Light Kit
Epic Armoury built the Light Kit Merc Armour Set for fighters who want mobility with a rugged mercenary edge. High-density polyurea foam meets sturdy leather construction for a set that stays tough, flexible, and easy to live in day after day. The polyurea pieces need no oiling or polishing and won't rust or dent, while the leather elements add durability and a naturally worn, battle-ready look. Though the pieces are built primarily to work as the Mercenary set, each one also plays well with other Epic Armoury armor, so there's plenty of room to build out your own kit.
The set breaks down into three pieces:
- Light Kit Torso Armour Merc: a hybrid cuirass pairing a polyurea front plate with a full grain leather backing. It covers the thorax, ribcage, and pelvis, with a contoured lower edge that rests comfortably on the hips, and secures at the shoulders and sides via adjustable leather straps.
- Light Kit Shoulder Plate Merc: two shoulder guards, each built from three ridged, overlapping PU lames that laminate-protect the upper arms. Leather straps around the biceps and shoulder blade attach the guards to a breastplate, gorget, or gambeson.
- Light Kit Merc Tassets: three overlapping plates in a historical laminate pikeman profile that shields the hips and thighs while articulating with your movement. Squared attachment holes hook straight onto the cuirass fastenings and secure with leather cords.
Worn together, the three pieces build a layered, rugged mercenary look while keeping the wearer light on their feet through long days in the field.
- Available in sizes S-M and L-XL
Fit, adjustment & care
The strap system on each piece handles most of the fit on its own, and where a closer fit is needed, the material itself can be reshaped with heat.
- Heat-shaping for a custom fit: apply heat to the inside (back) of a piece, never the painted exterior, to gently reshape the material without damaging the finish.
- Finish: the black base material sits under the painted surface, so scuffs and wear may eventually show through as black patches.
- Simple touch-ups: fix minor scuffs or scratches at home with a primer and acrylic hobby paint, such as Army Painter or Citadel.
- Leather care: condition the leather straps occasionally, the same as you would any full-grain leather product, to keep them supple.
- A living finish: expect wear and patina to build up naturally with use, adding to the piece's authentic, battle-worn character.
